Hawks Overpower Nationally Ranked BYU

The Hartford Hawks women’s basketball team proved that it belongs among the nation’s best with a 17-point rout of Brigham Young University (#23 and #22 in national polls) in the program’s first win over a ranked team at home.
The Hawks beat Brigham Young 60-43 on Saturday at the Chase Arena, Reich Family Pavilion. With that win, the Hawks improved their overall record for the season to 5-3. Prior to the game, the Hawks’ 2005-06 America East Championship banner was unveiled.
Senior Ikea Witt finished with 12 points, eclipsing the 1,000 point mark with her third point of the game. The Hawks were led by Lisa Etienne who finished with a team high 13 points. Witt and Erica Beverly also finished in double digits, both with 12. Witt was named the Nestle Purina ONE America East player of the game.
The Hawks will go back on the road for a single game at Big East foe St. John’s tonight (Monday, Dec. 4) at 7 p.m. Hartford will then return home to host UMass on Wednesday and then return to the road to meet Michigan State on Saturday. With those three games, the Hawks will complete a stretch of seven games in 15 days.
