Delva Sweeps America East Honors
Posted 2/6/2007
Freshman Diana Delva on Monday became just the second player in America East women’s basketball history to be named player and rookie of the week in the same week.
Delva led the Hawks to a pair of wins last week over the league’s second- and third-ranked teams in the preseason coaches’ poll. She notched back-to-back career highs in each of those games, scoring 14 points against Boston University and 24 against Stony Brook.
Maine’s Cindy Blodgett was the only other player in America East women’s basketball history to sweep the player and rookie of the week awards in the same week.
Hartford’s 65-47 victory over Stony Brook on Sunday put the Hawks in sole possession of first place in the America East standings. Hartford has won six straight and eight of its last nine games.
The Hawks will be back in action when they travel to New Hampshire on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game. For live game coverage, tune in to WWUH radio (91.3 FM or www.wwuh.org).
