The Humanities Center is seeking faculty and student applicants for various positions for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 academic years.

The deadline to apply for all positions is Friday, April 15.
  • FACULTY FELLOWS: The Humanities Center is seeking faculty fellows to participate in its honors courses for the 2005-06 academic year. Next year’s theme for the courses and lecture series will be freedom of speech, led by Elizabeth Burt, associate professor of communication. Each of the faculty fellows presents a talk during the spring term lecture series on a topic related to the seminar theme and participates in the Humanities Center honors courses in various ways throughout the academic year. The fellows receive a stipend of $1,500.

  • SEMINAR LEADER: The center is also seeking applications for a seminar leader for the 2006-07 academic year. The seminar leader develops honors courses on a theme of her or his choosing that are offered in the fall and spring semesters. The leader also coordinates a lecture series that is part of the spring semester honors course. This position provides a stipend of $1,500.

  • STUDENT FELLOWS: Faculty are urged to have their most talented and accomplished students, with GPAs of 3.25 or better, apply for Humanities Center student fellowships for the 2005-06 academic year. Students who are awarded these fellowships will attend a yearlong honors seminar and receive a substantial scholarship.

  • SPECIAL EVENTS: If your academic unit is planning an event such as a lecture, panel discussion, or exhibition that could be co-sponsored by the Humanities Center, please notify center Director Jack Banks. A few small grants in the range of $100 to $200 are available for events that highlight the role of the humanities on campus. Send Banks a short description of the event, planned date and expected expenses.
Letters explaining the responsibilities and application process for faculty fellows, student fellows, and seminar leaders have been sent to all faculty through intercampus mail. Contact Jack Banks at 860.768.5277 or jbanks@hartford.edu if you have any questions or need additional copies of the letters.
