The University of Hartford men's golf team finished the NCAA East Regional this past Saturday tied for 24th overall.

The three-day East Regional took place at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga., from May 17–19. The top 10 teams advanced to the national finals.

This was the Hawks’ 14th appearance in the NCAA Championship. Earlier this month, Hartford won the 2007 America East Championship, and Head Coach Bill Poutre was named America East Coach of the Year.

The Hawks shot their best round of the NCAA East Regional on Saturday. They recorded a team score of 304 in the final round and moved up two spots on the leaderboard, tying Rhode Island with a three-round total of 940. Hartford also finished higher than both Boston College (947) and Longwood (951).

Georgia posted the lowest score (855) in the 27-team field. The Bulldogs qualified for the national finals along with top-10 finishers Florida, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Duke, Charlotte, North Carolina, Georgia State and Coastal Carolina.

Freshman Maki Kobayashi carded Hartford's lowest round of the tournament on Saturday with a three-under par 69. He played the par-5 holes in three under and had four birdies and just one bogey for the round. Kobayashi finished tied for 66th overall at 226.
