CETA Students Excel in Regional Competitions

Students in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) have reaped a number of honors in recent American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) competitions.
On March 29, seniors Aaron Beal, Doug Wilcox, and Meghan Hegarty competed in the ASME Hartford Section’s Student Paper Night at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Vying against students from Trinity College, Central Connecticut State University, and UCONN, Aaron Beal won the evening’s competition for his paper "Safety Enhancement of Wheelchair with Design Modification." Senior Tom Barry was honored as the University of Hartford’s top mechanical engineering student.
Barry also won the regional oral competition at ASME’s Regional Student Conference held at Western New England College on April 2. He will represent Region 1 at the national competition to be held at Disney World in November. Region 1 includes engineering schools throughout New England and Eastern Canada.
Barry, who partnered with Beal , won for his presentation of "Safety Enhancement of Wheelchair with Design Modification." Rachel Hartman, a Trinity student who takes her biomedical engineering courses at the University of Hartford, placed third.
The University of Hartford also came in second place in the Ingersoll-Rand Competition and won an award for the most students in attendance. Damien Bell represented the university in the poster competition, and Bell and Shawn Sheppo represented the university in the design contest.
