Cherra Wyllie
Cherra Wyllie, assistant professor of art history, Hillyer College, was the invited lecturer in anthropology in a Yale University graduate course in ethno-archaeology. Wyllie spoke on her work experiences learning traditional amate papermaking in San Pablito, Puebla, Mexico, as well as implications for understanding Aztec divinatory books.
In addition, Wyllie recently chaired a session of American, British and Mexican archaeologists and art historians for the Society for American Archaeology annual meetings in Salt Lake City, Utah (March 30-April 3).
In a symposium entitled "Relief Carved Fine Paste Wares of Ancient Mesoamerica," participants shared their findings on the manufacture, distribution, hieroglyphs, and iconography of sculpted ceramics from Classic Period Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. Wyllie presented a paper, "The Lady or the Jaguar?: Rio Blanco Cihuateteo Bowls from Veracruz," examining the iconography on a subset of these vessels from the Mexican Gulf Coast.
Janet P. Kremenitzer
Janet P. Kremenitzer, assistant professor of education and coordinator of elementary education, ENHP, presented in Washington, D.C. at the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) on March 26. The presentation, titled "Preservice Integrative Unit Planning," was based on a three-year collaborative effort between higher education and elementary school practice. The use of Integrative Unit Planning as a standards-based focus for assessment "evidence" within teacher education is an integral part of demonstrating pre-practitioner skills and can be used for national accreditation purposes.
