Faculty Member Sought for Oxford Program

In July 2006 the university will again conduct a summer study abroad program at Hertford College of Oxford University in England. The program, “Discovering Britain,” combines classroom instruction with a variety of field trips and excursions. It is team-taught by two faculty members (depending on student numbers). Students earn 6 All-University Curriculum (AUC) or Humanities credits.
The International Center, Summer Programs Office, and the AUC are currently seeking one university faculty member in the fields of British literature, history, or politics to teach the course and accompany the group. Compensation includes a 3-credit summer course stipend, round-trip airfare, and housing at Oxford.

This integrative course in the Humanities is designed as an exploration of the British heritage during study abroad. It will introduce students to the major literary works, historical and political events, and culture of Britain in selected historical periods. By studying in England, students have opportunities to integrate their study of history, literature, and art, with field trips to museums, historical sites, authors’ homes, galleries, theaters, castles, and manors.

- your resume;
- a one-page description of the particular focus of the course that you would like to offer at Oxford, concentrating on one historical period;
- evidence of teaching excellence in the form of a letter from a chair, dean, or colleague who can attest to your teaching.
