Hartford's 2006-07 men's golf team captured three tournament titles during the past season, including the America East Conference championship. The team earned its 14th berth in the NCAA East Regional Tournament in May, but in the future there will no longer be regional allocations to the NCAA tournament.
When the 2007-08 men's golf season begins in the fall, the University of Hartford will be one of eight schools participating in the newly formed America Sky Men's Golf Conference.

The NCAA Division I Management Council Administrative Committee has approved the new America Sky Men’s Golf Conference as an active NCAA Division I conference effective September 1, 2007.

America Sky is a single-sport conference that was created by an alliance of men’s golf teams from the America East Conference and the Big Sky Conference, as well as two independent programs. In addition to the University of Hartford, the new conference will include Binghamton University, Idaho State University, University of Texas-Pan American, University of Northern Colorado, Weber State University, Utah Valley University and Sacramento State University.

One of the goals of the alliance is to provide member schools with access to the post-season NCAA tournament. Currently, Hartford and Binghamton are the only America East schools that have men's golf teams, so the conference champion does not qualify for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

But with eight men's golf teams, the new America Sky Conference will be eligible for NCAA Championship automatic qualifier status beginning in the 2009-10 season.

“The America Sky Men’s Golf Conference is a unique partnership of institutions from literally across the country,” said Associate Athletics Director Jim Keener, who is executive committee chair for the America Sky Men’s Golf Conference. “We are pleased that the NCAA has recognized our collective commitment to support men’s golf on our campuses, and we believe our association will be an important factor in the development of our programs.

“The formation of the America Sky Men’s Golf Conference is a tribute to the hard work of the coaches and administrators at each of our schools,” Keener said. “We look forward to our future together.”

The first America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championship will be held September 24-25 as part of the Weber State Purple & Red Invitational in Layton, Utah.
