Greenberg Grant Winners Announced
Posted 4/29/2005
Clara Fang of CETA and Erin Striff of the College of Arts and Sciences have been awarded 2005-06 Greenberg Junior Faculty Research Grants.
Fang is assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA). She will use her grant to develop an algorithm to provide optimal traffic signal control at closely-spaced intersections. Such an algorithm may lead to a reduction in travel time, vehicle stops, air emissions, and fuel use.
Striff, assistant professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences, will explore the use of transgressive female characters on the contemporary stage. Such “unruly” characters, when set against traditional roles of women as mothers, daughters, and wives, may counteract some of society’s myths about women.
The Greenberg Junior Faculty Research Grants are internal grant awards intended to promote high-quality research, scholarship, and artistic activity by faculty members who are just beginning their careers. Award recipients are provided with up to $5,000 to be applied toward course releases during the academic year and up to $2,500 for research-related expenses, for a total award of $7,500.
The grants are made possible by a generous gift from Arnold and Beverly Greenberg.
