Accolades: Natalie Frank
Posted 5/4/2005
Natalie Frank, assistant professor of psychology, recently participated in the White House Conference on the Future of Aging, which included individuals who were invited based on work in specialized areas of aging. Frank provided several personally authored papers and papers co-authored by graduate students, including Megan Dunbar, Gina Mariano, and Rushina Bhatt. Frank and her students researched the mental and physical effects observed in caregivers of the elderly, in domestic caretaking, professional/hired in-home caretaking, and caregivers in long-term care facilities. Other papers summarized findings related to elder abuse and presented a novel conceptualization of “mutual abuse.” These papers discussed the social aspects involved in problems experienced by caretakers and victims of elder abuse, in addition to providing suggestions for addressing these difficulties through interpersonal intervention strategies.
Frank also was chosen as an Ambassador by the American Cancer Society, for her continued work on pediatric cancer through research and volunteer efforts, and she participated in the recent “Connecticut Celebration on the Hill” at the State Capitol in Hartford. She met with State Sen. Thomas Herlihy and State Rep. Robert Heagney to discuss legislation that would provide $1 million in increased funding for Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Programs and $1 million in new funding to develop a Statewide Clinical Trials Network.
