Nominations Sought for 2005-06 Pedagogy Awards
Posted 5/5/2005
Nominations are being sought for the 2005-06 awards for Outstanding Achievements in Pedagogy. The awards are intended to recognize faculty for outstanding teaching accomplishments achieved within the period of one to two years prior to the nomination for the award. Nominations are due by 4 p.m. on Friday, June 17, in the Faculty Senate Office (CC 314).
This award, previously called the “Outstanding Teachers Award," was renamed last year to reflect the emphasis on recent and specific achievements in pedagogy.
Any full-time faculty member, regardless of rank or tenure status, may be nominated. Both tenured and untenured faculty are eligible for the award. Nominations may be made by deans, department heads, faculty colleagues, or students. Faculty members may also prepare self-nominations. Nominators must submit a one- to two-page letter of nomination along with the supporting materials needed to document the claim of teaching accomplishments. Since the award focuses on recent teaching accomplishments, nominations from 2004 are not automatically reactivated.
Awards will be presented at the Faculty/Staff Kickoff in August in Lincoln Theater. Each awardee receives a $500 faculty development line to be used during the academic year for travel to professional meetings, purchase of instructional materials, and other expenses. This award is given to up to five faculty members each year.
A letter that describes the application process for this award in more detail has been sent to all faculty. Contact Jack Banks, the university’s Distinguished Teaching Humanist, if you would like to be sent a copy of this letter or if you have any questions about this award. Banks can be reached at 768-5277 or via email at jbanks@hartford.edu.
