The MUSIC for a CHANGE benefit concert series has been awarded a grant of $48,500 by Lincoln Financial Services.

The grant will be used to generate increased publicity for the concert series, bring in performers with greater name recognition, and provide more funding for the nonprofit agencies that co-sponsor the concerts, said Irwin Nussbaum, director of the MUSIC for a CHANGE series.

The University of Hartford, in cooperation with WWUH radio (91.3 FM), created the benefit concert series as a way to use music to help its Hartford-area neighbors. Launched in the spring of 2000, the concert series has raised more than $30,000 for Greater Hartford charities and nonprofit organizations.

Performers who have appeared as headliners in the MUSIC for a CHANGE series include Wynton Marsalis, Art Garfunkel, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Shawn Colvin, Richie Havens, Jonathan Edwards, and Aztec Two-Step.
