Student Technology Fee Used to Enhance Resources
Posted 5/9/2005
The Student Technology Fee has been used over the course of the 2004-05 academic year to make continued improvements to technology resources throughout the university.
A portion of the Student Technology Fee is used to maintain the ResNet system, Internet services, Media Technology Services, Blackboard course management, and the ongoing technology replacement in laboratories and general purpose classrooms. In addition, $250,000 was allocated this year to enhance the technology in the ISET complex.
Provost Donna Randall appointed a Technology Recommendation Committee (T-REC), with representation from across the University, to review and recommend how to allocate the remaining portion (approximately $150,000) of the Student Technology Fee.
Following allocation guidelines issued by the president and the provost, the committee reviewed a total of 39 proposals totaling nearly $569,000 during the academic year. The committee recommended to Provost Randall that 16 proposals be funded either fully or partially. Randall approved these recommendations with some adjustments.
Approved proposals involved all colleges, the University Libraries, and the Faculty Center for Learning Development. The technology proposals that were funded include SMART classroom projectors and podiums, various forms of electronic SMART boards, ArtStor (ability to access 300,000 images through the use of the Internet), and other lab technologies.
The University of Hartford strives to make strategic decisions for the use of the Student Technology Fee and leverage these resources so that all students benefit from learning technologies.
Please feel free to contact George Brophy, chair of the T-REC committee, (brophy@hartford.edu) for more information about the allocation of the Student Technology Fee and the T-REC committee.
