Accolades: Susan Coleman, Woody Doane, Fred Jenoure
Posted 5/10/2005
Susan Coleman, professor of finance, Barney School of Business, presented a paper entitled, "The Impact of Human Capital Measures on Firm Performance: A Comparison by Gender, Race, and Ethnicity," at the Annual Conference for the Academy of Entrepreneurial Finance in Laredo, Texas.
Woody Doane, professor of sociology and associate dean for academic administration at Hillyer College, was invited to speak at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., on April 25. While at Bryant, Doane spoke to two race and ethnic relations classes that were using the book he co-edited, White Out (Routledge, 2003), as their main textbook.
Later in the day, Doane gave a public lecture, “White is a Color, Too! Why Whiteness Matters in the Struggle against Racism,” to an audience of more than 100 students and faculty. In the lecture, Doane discussed how white racial identity often serves as an obstacle to understanding and talking about race relations in the United States and called for greater involvement by white Americans in the struggle to overcome racism. Doane’s lecture was followed by a commentary by Patricia Rollins Trosclair, director of the Multicultural Center at Johnson and Wales University and president of SOAR (Society Organized Against Racism), and an open discussion session.
Frederick E. Jenoure, Jr., special assistant to the president and university ombudsman, has been elected to a one-year term as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Urban League of Greater Hartford. Jenoure has been a board member for two years. He chairs the Workforce Development Committee and the Job Fair Committee, and he is a member of the Development and Home Ownership committees.
