Norma Collins Cobbledick, retired adjunct faculty member in the A&S drama department and former costume designer for the University Players, passed away on May 12.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 20, at 4 p.m., at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.

“Norma was the heart and soul of the drama department. Her passion for both her students and her art were an inspiration to all of us,” said Sally Porterfield, director of the A&S drama program and director of the University Players. “She will never be replaced.”

Cobbledick taught in the drama department for 15 years, from 1986 to 2001. Her special area of expertise was costume design and costume history, and she was known for her exceptional sense of style and fashion.

“She was a person of great warmth and talent, and terrific style,” said Catherine Stevenson, associate professor of English and drama. “The students adored her.”

The homemade brownies that Cobbledick brought to University Players productions were legendary within the drama department, and were symbolic of her dedication to the program and its students, Porterfield said.

Cobbledick, 71, of Simsbury, was a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, and earned her master’s degree in fine arts at the University of Connecticut. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jay R. Cobbledick of Simsbury; her mother, Agnes “Susie” (Coletti) Lombardi; four daughters: Jordan Cardone of Brunswick, Maine, Diane Daley of Aston, Pa., Jillian Miller of Jim Thorpe, Pa., and Pamela Daley of Franklin, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Jeanine Cobbledick, and a stepson, Evan Cobbledick, of Simsbury; a sister, Vilma Giffoni of Ashland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and a great grandson.
