In the "Education Briefs" column in the May 13 issue of the Hartford Courant, it was noted that bequests of more than $500,000 from the late Dorothy Goodwin helped fund the new Dorothy Goodwin Cafe in the University's Mortensen Library and will help support the Women's Education and Leadership Fund (WELFund). The item noted that Goodwin was a longtime trustee of Hartford College for Women, a life member of the Mortensen Library Board of Visitors, and a life regent of the University.

A May 19 Hartford Courant review of performances at the first Jackie McLean International Arts Festival highlighted the work of Hartt School faculty member Steve Davis, Hartt School alums such as Eric McPherson, and Hartt School freshmen Javon Alexandre and Jonathon Barber. "Their impressive contributions offered proof of McLean's enduring legacy," noted the review.

Hartt School alumna Danielle Turano was highlighted in a story about how she is tutoring young kids in music in the Wallingford Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Arts Program. Turano, a violin major who graduated from Hartt in 2007, has been performing in a classical string trio, an alternative pop/rock trio, and a metal band. The article first appeared in the Meriden Record-Journal and was also printed in the New London Day, New Haven Register, and Boston Globe.

Cindy Adams, who received a Regents Honor Award for Graduate Studies from the University in April and who graduated with a doctorate in educational leadership from the University on May 18, has been named the Connecticut Nurse of the Year 2008.
