Karen Breda, associate professor of nursing in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) and director of Project Horizon, was featured in the "Medical Life" section of the June 2008 issue of a number of Life publications, including editions in Simsbury, Avon and West Hartford. The article highlighted the work of Project Horizon, which enables trained nurses who are pursuing bachelor's or master's degrees at the University to work in the community, including homeless shelters in Hartford. Also quoted in the article are Kim Groot and Stacey D’Appollonio, both of whom earned BSN and MSN degrees from the University and are now participating in the program as adjunct faculty members.

The first graduation ceremony for the University High School of Science and Engineering, which took place on June 13 in Lincoln Theater, was the subject of a story on WFSB-TV Channel 3 that day and in the Hartford Courant on June 14.

Albert DiChiara, director of the criminal justice program in the College of Arts and Sciences, was quoted in a Hartford Business Journal cover story on June 16 that examined the potential impact that recent incidents of violence in Hartford may have on the city's economic revitalization efforts. DiChiara noted that when police enforce quality-of-life ordinances, violent crime generally decreases and tourism increases, as evidenced in New York City during the 1990s.

The Hartt School's recent fundraising dinner at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in West Hartford's Blue Back Square was the subject of a story in the June 15 issue of the Hartford Courant's "iTowns" section. The funds raised will benefit Hartt School Community Division students and their upcoming American Composers Abroad concert series in Europe. The article was accompanied by a photograph of Clark Saunders, associate dean and director of graduate studies, and Glen Adsit, director of bands and associate director of the Instrumental Studies division.

Jarrett Stawarz, a former pitcher for the Hartford Hawks baseball team, was named a starter for the Nashua (N.H.) Pride minor league baseball team, according to a story in the June 12 edition of the Nashua Telegraph.
