New Development Appointments Announced

Don Rizzo, acting vice president for institutional advancement, has announced the appointment of Richard J. Tuchman as executive director of development. Rizzo also announced the appointment of Lawrence E. Wilson as director of major and leadership gifts. Both will join the university on Monday, June 13.

Tuchman comes to the University of Hartford from Yale, where he was director of Yale College Annual Giving. Prior to that he spent more than two years as director of institutional advancement at Saint Joseph College, and eight years at Quinnipiac University, where he held the roles of director of annual giving, director of development, and executive director of development.

Tuchman began his career with the Boy Scouts of America and moved on to the American Heart Association before focusing on higher education development in 1994. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Cornell University, his master’s in journalism from Quinnipiac University, and became a certified fund raising executive (CFRE) in 1997.

Wilson most recently was vice president for development at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, a position he took after six years with the Pequot Tribal Nations doing institutional development and marketing for the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center. As chief executive officer of the Eastern Pequot Indians, Wilson was involved with political affairs, media relations, and entrepreneurial fundraising.

Wilson’s academic experience includes four years as director of admissions at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He also has more than 15 years of corporate management experience at both General Motors, Inc., and the Philip Morris Companies. He received his BA in economics and music from Drew University and his MBA in marketing and entrepreneurial management from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
