Hartt Student Earns Honorary Mention in Web Concert Hall Competition

Krystian Tkaczewski, a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) piano student at The Hartt School, was one of two musicians to receive an Honorary Mention in the 10th International Web Concert Hall Competition, which was  held in the United States from January to late February 2009.

The three-round competition was open to orchestral instrumentalists and chamber ensembles of all nationalities and all ages. Seventy-eight applications were submitted from the United States, Russia, the Netherlands, Poland, Taiwan, Japan, China, South Korea, Germany, France, Italy, South Africa, Croatia, Mexico, Bulgaria, Serbia, Lithuania, and Ukraine. Of the 78 participants, 59 were solo instrumentalists and 19 were ensembles.

In January, 21 semi-finalists were selected, and in February the field was narrowed down to14 finalists.

The 10th International Web Concert Hall competition concluded  in early March with the selection of two winners and two Honorary Mention recipients, including Tkaczewski, who represented Poland and the U.S.

Tkaczewski, who studies with Oxana Yablonskaya, performed Chopin Etude in C Mj. Op.10; No.1; Bach Prelude and Fuga in D mj Vol II; Mozart Sonata in B-flat Mj. K333; Rachmaninoff Sonata No.2; and other pieces for the competition.
