Announcement of Hartt Dean Receives Extensive Media Coverage

The announcement of Aaron Flagg's appointment as the new dean of The Hartt School received extensive media coverage. In a March 25 article in the Hartford Courant, Flagg said he wants to build on Hartt's visibility, "taking it to the next level." He said he plans to bring "a clear, compelling and distinctive identity to the school." Read the article on courant.com.

Flagg also was interviewed on WDRC-AM on March 30. He spoke with host Brad Davis about his hopes for The Hartt School.

The Associated Press also covered The Hartt School announcement. That story was picked up by other media outlets, including the Journal Inquirer, the Boston Globe, KLKN-TV in Nebraska, KION-TV in California, and KRIS-TV in Texas.

Nicole Suissa, a first-year student, was the subject of a front page article in the Hartford Courant on March 30. The article detailed Suissa’s struggles to pay for college and the outpouring of support she received from strangers who saw a story about her financial problems on CNN. Demetrios Giannaros, an economics professor in the Barney School of Business, was interviewed on WTIC-AM on March 25. Giannaros spoke with host Ray Dunaway about the next phase of President Obama’s bailout package. Listen to the interview at wtic.com.

Michael Robinson, assistant professor of history in Hillyer College, was interviewed by the Maine Public Broadcasting Network on March 24. Robinson is the curator of an exhibition on Arctic exploration at the Portland Museum of Art. Listen to the interview on wpbn.net.

John “Jay” Stewart, associate professor of sociology, A&S, was quoted in the Hartford Courant on March 23. Stewart testified on a resolution that would make Connecticut the first state in New England to apologize for slavery. Stewart said “slavery has left a cultural burden on both the exploited and the exploiters that still permeates our society.” Read the article on courant.com.

Nelson Ebo, a first-year vocal performance student in The Hartt School, was profiled in the Concord Monitor on March 19. The article previewed Ebo’s solo opera recital in Concord, N.H. Read the story on concordmonitor.com.

During spring break, Professor Richard Freund, director of the University's Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies, was interviewed by Spain’s Radio Seville. Over spring break, Freund was in southern Spain in search of evidence of the ancient Middle Eastern Phoenicians in Spain.
