Please be reminded that during this exciting time of graduation, any faculty or staff member who has medical, dental and/or dependent life insurance for their graduating child should contact HRD immediately. Changes in eligibility status must be brought to the attention of HRD within 30 days of the status change to ensure immediate and proper benefit continuation processing.
Your dependent child maintains his/her eligibility status for participation in your University of Hartford group medical coverage to age 24 and dental and dependent life coverage to age 25, as long as he/she is a regular full-time student. Eligibility for coverage stops at the end of the month in which the dependent child loses student status or ages out of the plan.
Under federal COBRA law, he/she then becomes eligible for continuation of medical and/or dental coverage through COBRA for a period up to 36 months. Dependent life insurance may also have conversion options. You must notify HRD of the qualifying event within 30 days to ensure COBRA eligibility.
For more detailed information regarding rights and obligations under COBRA, please visit our website at www.hartford.edu/hrd. Any questions regarding eligibility status should be directed to your designated HR Representative.
