Service-Learning Discussion Group to Meet Tuesday

The final meeting for the year of the service-learning discussion group will be held on Tuesday, April 21, from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m., in CC 315.
Our topic will be reflection. One of the axioms of service-learning, and of experiential education in general, is that experience alone does not necessarily lead to learning. In fact, some people in the service-learning movement insist that there be a hyphen between "service" and "learning," and that hyphen represents reflection. Reflection is especially important when you are trying to use service-learning to achieve specific academic and civic learning outcomes.
There are a great many reflective techniques out there, varying in the degree of structure, the focus, the time required, and so on. Please come prepared to share your ideas and questions. All are welcome, regardless of your prior attendance at these meetings or your level of experience with service-learning.
If you have any questions, please contact Fred Sweitzer, Assistant Provost and Dean of Faculty Development, at 768-4504 or sweitzer@hartford.edu.
