The following email was sent to students, faculty, and staff on Tuesday, April 28. It was written by Vice President for Student Affairs Lee Peters and Director of Public Safety John Schmaltz.

University of Hartford Students,

Due to the three unfortunate events that have occurred on campus over the past few weeks, we are initiating additional campus security measures in the evenings. Beginning tonight and throughout the rest of the semester, we will be closing the north gate at 10:30 p.m. Students, faculty and staff entering the campus through the main entrance between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. will be required to show ID to Public Safety and Hartford police officers to gain entry. Unaccompanied visitors to campus will not be allowed to enter the campus between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

If a student has invited a guest to campus after 10:30 p.m., the student (with proper ID) must either be with their guest or be waiting for their guest in Parking Lot A. If a guest is unaccompanied by a student, faculty or staff member, they will be turned away from campus. Please remember that if you have to get to Lot A lot to meet a guest, our Public Safety campus shuttle runs from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday (go to www.hartford.edu/resources/bus/OnCampus.asp for further information).

These measures have been put in place to enhance the security of all members of the University community. They will require all of us to carry our ID cards at all times. They will also require patience, understanding and collaboration on the part of all campus community members. Please recognize that these are temporary measures and we will refine them throughout the rest of the semester.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.
