Bill Thomson, assistant professor of illustration at the Hartford Art School, has received several prestigious awards for his first children’s book, Karate Hour, published by Cavendish Children’s Books.
Thomson’s illustrations for Karate Hour have been recognized in a number of national juried illustration competitions. He received a gold award and two merit awards in the Illustration West 43 competition, sponsored by the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators, and two merit awards in the Illustrators 46 competition from the Society of Illustrators of New York.
The book also was selected for inclusion in the exhibition Original Art, the Best in Children’s Book Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in New York, and has received starred reviews from the American Library Association’s Booklist and the School Library Journal publications.
