Accolades: Sundeep Muppidi, Devdas Shetty
Posted 8/15/2005
Sundeep Muppidi, associate professor of communication, was awarded the NATPE faculty development grant for 2005-2006 by the National Association of Television Program Executives. The Faculty Development Grant Program gives college and university media educators the opportunity to gain experience in a professional media environment. It enables teaching faculty to spend a few weeks of the summer “interning” with a TV station, cable system, broadcast or cable network or program distributor. The goals are to increase teaching effectiveness through first-hand experience and to nurture relationships between educators and the industry.
As part of the fellowship, Muppidi spent a productive two weeks at the local WFSB Channel 3 television station. He has been invited to present his report to NATPE at its annual conference in Las Vegas in January 2006.
Devdas Shetty, dean of research and Vernon D. Roosa Professor in Manufacturing Engineering, College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA), had his paper, “ A Non contact Visual Measurement System Integrating Lab View with Matlab” published in the International Journal of Engineering Education, Vol. 21, No. 1. Co-authors are CETA alumnus Suresh Ramasamy who is now a Ph.D student at the University of North Carolina, and Professor Seng Joo Choi of the Korean University of Technology and Education in South Korea.
The paper discusses a new method to measure shrinkage with a non contact laser technique that uses the latest modeling and simulation tools. The instrument described in the paper was developed at the University of Hartford’s Engineering Applications Center and has been deployed in area industries, among them the Loctite Corporation. The paper represents the collaborative efforts with industry and international cooperation that are so prevalent in CETA’s programs.
