Hartt School Alumna's Tony Nomination Makes News

Hartt School alumna Marin Ireland '00 has received extensive media coverage for her Tony Award nomination. Ireland, who lost the best featured actress in a play award to Angela Lansbury, was profiled in the Hartford Courant on June 7. Commenting on her time at the University, Ireland said "I was the nerdy kid who worked hard." Read the rest of the article on courant.com.

The June 9 "Java" column in the Hartford Courant featured a Tony Awards viewing party that took place at Hartford Stage. University President Walter Harrison, who is president of the Hartford Stage board, was featured in a photo that accompanied the column. Also featured in the coverage of the Hartford Stage party were University regent Belle Ribicoff, a member of the Hartford Stage board, and Hartt School faculty member Johanna Morrison, who learned that she had been nominated for a Connecticut Critics Circle award for her role in "Noises Off!" at Hartford Stage last spring. President Harrison also was quoted in the June 5 edition of The Birmingham (Ala.) News. Harrison, who serves as the chair of the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance, commented on Jacksonville State's appeal of the decision that banned its football team from the postseason next year. Harrison said "Since I'm chair of the committee that made the decision you can probably infer what I think. But it's a good thing they have the appeal." Read the rest of the article on al.com.

Demetrios Giannaros, professor of economics in the Barney School of Business, was a guest on WTIC-AM's "Mornings with Ray" show on June 8. Giannaros spoke about the latest unemployment figures. Giannaros was also recently interviewed by NBC 30's Tom Monahan and the Connecticut Radio Network.

An article by Jan Brassem, an adjunct faculty member in the Barney School, appeared in the latest issue of National Jeweler magazine. Brassem offered some advice for small-business owners trying to grow their business in a bad economy. Read the article on nationaljewelernetwork.com.
