USA Today Mentions Honorary Degree Ceremony for Jerry Kelly

The University's honorary degree ceremony for golfer and alumnus Jerry Kelly '89 received extensive media coverage. USA Today referenced the ceremony this way: "When Kelly played at the Travelers' Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday, he had his new red, black and white doctoral hood draped around his shoulders when he hit his opening tee shot. A 1989 graduate of the Barney School of Business, Kelly then playfully flipped the bottom of the long hood into the wind, to the delight of the crowd that ringed the tee box." Kelly was also the subject of Jeff Jacobs' column in the Hartford Courant on June 23. University President Walter Harrison was quoted, saying "Not only has Jerry brought headlines to our university, he has provided a great model for the values our students should have." Harrison participated in a panel discussion at the Travelers Championship to gauge the market for more games and sporting events in the area. Edith Ouelette, who recently graduated from the University with a Master of Science in nursing, was profiled in the Norwich Bulletin, on June 21. Ouelette says a childhood hospitalization inspired her to become a nurse. "I realize how important the role of a nurse is," Ouellet said. "They were the ones who were with me the whole time.
