Ashton-Pritting Quoted on Library Cuts in State Budget

Randi Ashton-Pritting, director of University Libraries, was quoted in the June 29 edition of the School Library Journal. Ashton-Pritting and librarians from around the state have been protesting Governor Rell's decision to cut more than $5 million in library funding from the state budget over the next two years. "We're hoping it will draw attention to the ramifications of cutting library support," says Ashton-Pritting, who is president of the Connecticut Library Association. University President Walter Harrison was interviewed for a story that ran in The Birmingham (Ala.) News on June 27. Harrison, who is the chairman of the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance, discussed the upcoming implementation of Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores for head coaches. Read the story on al.com.
Pete Congleton, director of planned giving in the University's Office of Institutional Advancement, was a guest on a Nutmeg TV talk show that aired on Comcast Channel 5 on Sunday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. The program was on "Leave a Legacy," and featured host Noreen Zurell interviewing Congleton; Phil Rockwell of Masonicare; and Beth Connor of Community Health Resources, who are all members of the Leave a Legacy Committee of Greater Hartford. The show will be rebroadcast at other times over the next few weeks.
Glen Adsit, associate director of The Hartt School Instrumental Studies Division, was quoted in the Hartford Courant on June 25. Adsit will be guest conductor for the ABBA and Billy Joel cover concerts at the Talcott Mountain Music Festival. Adsit said he was excited for the chance to conduct pop songs.
