Laurence Gould, professor of physics in the College of Arts and Sciences, was mentioned in a July 1 Op-Ed piece in the Boston Globe about the debate over climate change. Gould was among a group of scientists that sent a statement to Congress contending that "The sky is not falling." Far from warming, the scientists wrote, "the Earth has been cooling for 10 years’’ – a trend that "was not predicted by the alarmists’ computer models." You can read the Op-Ed column on boston.com. Several blogs, including "Greenie Watch" and "The Cobourg Skeptic" also ran the piece.

Several media outlets mentioned the selection of women's basketball coach Jennifer Rizzotti for induction into the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame. Read about it in the Hartford Courant, The Hour, and connecticutplus.com.

The Hartford Courant ran a "Letter to the Editor" by Roger Desmond, professor in the School of Communication, on July 3. Desmond criticized the paper's coverage of the fifth anniversary of former Governor John Rowland's resignation. Desmond wrote the "rehash of old news about the fall of the governor and his associates lacked any principles of fairness or objectivity...It's bad journalism." Read the rest of the letter on courant.com.

Professor of Communication Harvey Jassem was quoted in the Hartford Courant's CAL section on July 2. Talking about WWUH radio's plans to broadcast the Monday Night Jazz Series in Bushnell Park, Jassem said "It is frankly quite rare for any radio or television station to cover any concerts live anywhere in the nation."

Denise Bard, outgoing director in the Office of Human Resources Development, was the subject of articles in the July 1 edition of the New Britain Herald and the July 7 edition of the Hartford Courant. Bard is leaving the University to become human resources director for the Town of Berlin, Conn., and its Board of Education.
