New, Online System for Parking Permits to Debut
Posted 7/9/2001
The Department of Public Safety is preparing to launch a new, online system that will allow members of the University community to order parking permits – and to review, pay, and appeal tickets – through the online Self-Service Center.
The new system is designed to save paper, increase convenience, and eliminate long lines at the Public Safety office. Here’s how it will work . . .
Parking Permits
(Please note that the new system is not yet available online. It is expected to launch in mid-August.)
Once the new system is up and running, students, faculty, and staff who want to purchase a parking permit will log onto the Self-Service Center and click on the “Public Safety/Parking” link. They will then click “Purchase a Permit,” and will be asked to enter their vehicle information.
– Faculty and staff will be able to pay the $25 permit fee by Master Card, American Express, Discover, or electronic check. (Note: adjunct faculty will not be charged for permits, but will still have to complete the online registration process.)
– Students will be billed for their parking permits. The parking fees will show up on their electronic billing statements.
After completing the online process, faculty, staff, and commuter students will be able to print out a temporary permit, which is good until Sept. 16 at 8 a.m. They should bring their temporary permit, vehicle registration, and University ID to the Department of Public Safety office before Sept. 16, to receive a permanent valid permit to display in their car.
Resident students who complete the online registration process will be able to print out a temporary permit which is good until Sept. 3 at 8 a.m. They must bring their temporary permit, vehicle registration, and University ID to the Department of Public Safety office before Sept. 3, to receive a permanent valid permit to display in their car.
Temporary Postings
Students will also be able to use the new, online system for “temporary postings” throughout the year, including visitor parking permits.
Tickets/Citations
In addition, faculty, staff, and students will be able to review, pay, and appeal parking tickets and citations online. Once again, they will log on to the Self-Service Center and click on the “Public Safety” link. They will then see links for reviewing, paying, and appealing tickets.
Tickets may be paid online using Master Card, American Express, Discover, or electronic check. Those who appeal their tickets online will be notified of the resolution by email.
