At that convention, Muppidi also took over as chair of the international communication division of the AEJMC.

In addition, Muppidi was invited to attend and participate in the day-long meeting of the AEJMC Internationalization Task Force (ITF) during the San Antonio convention. The ITF is working towards hosting the World Journalism and Media Congress in Singapore in July 2007.

Muppidi’s other recent accomplishments include the following:
  • Muppidi is a recipient of the Journalism and Mass Communication Leadership Institute for Diversity (JLID) Fellowship for 2005-2006. The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) founded the JLID program in 2000. The program was created to provide training and mentoring for people of color and women interested in becoming journalism and mass communication deans, directors or chairs.

For the past three years, the Gannett Foundation has been the primary funding agency for the program, which is administered by the AEJMC/ASJMC Central Office staff. The year-long fellowship program features training workshops, networking and a mentor relationship.

  • Muppidi has been invited to serve as an external examiner by the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), University of the West Indies, Jamaica.

  • Muppidi also served as a committee member on the Great Ideas for Teachers (GIFT) committee of the AEJMC for 2005.
