The following is a message from Director of Public Safety John Schmaltz.

As part of our ongoing evaluation of the University’s security needs, we have made some adjustments to the nighttime security detail at the main campus entrance.

In early September, following two reports of robberies over the Labor Day weekend, we announced that a Public Safety officer and a Hartford Police officer would be stationed at the main entrance to campus nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

We have been closely monitoring and evaluating the University’s security needs over the past month, and have determined that it is no longer necessary at this time to have the officers stationed at the main campus entrance seven nights a week.

Public Safety and Hartford Police will continue to make vehicle stops at the main campus entrance on a number of nights each week, but they will no longer be there every night of the week.

We will continue to monitor the University’s security needs on an ongoing basis, and will make additional adjustments as warranted.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Department of Public Safety at 860.768.7985.

Sincerely,
John Schmaltz
Director of Public Safety
