Sherry Buckberrough's students created art using trash and other materials.
A reception celebrating a new exhibit by students in Associate Professor Sherry Buckberrough's "Art for the Earth" first-year seminar will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. in Mortensen Library.

The event will include a presentation in Woods Classroom, followed by a tour of the exhibit. Refreshments will be served.

The exhibit features trash and other artifacts that the students pulled from the Hog River on campus, Batterson Pond in Farmington, and the woods behind the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford. The students arranged the material into works of art, in the style of Mark Dion '86 (Hon. '02), a Hartford Art School alumnus and internationally renowned artist. Dion is known for creating a unique art form based on discarded objects that he uncovers at unconventional, archeological-style digs around the globe.

The students' art will be on display at Mortensen Library through the middle of this month.
