Students, are you looking to make a difference? Do you have a thesis that needs publishing? Or do you have some great ideas you just want to get out?

Efforts are being made to start a chapter of the Roosevelt Institution, a student-run think tank, at the University of Hartford. Organizers need five to 10 more people to get the group going.

Tiana Notice, one of the students who is working to start a campus chapter of the Roosevelt Institution, wrote the following questions and answers about the organization.

What is the Roosevelt Instituition?
It is the nation’s first student-run think tank. It is also a non-partisan organization. We do not lobby or support candidates.

What does it do?
It is a non-profit organization that allows students' ideas to be heard on various policy topics, such as the environment, women’s issues, energy, the Middle East, the war in Iraq, the Hurricane Katrina disaster, etc. Students are encouraged to share their views, and the Roosevelt Institution provides the forum for students' ideas to be published and heard by Congress and state legislatures.

Is it fun?
Yes it is! We travel to places like Washington, D.C., and we meet leaders in Congress, politics, economics, social issues, and other areas. There recently was a convention at FDR’s estate in Hyde Park, N.Y., where students represented 50 schools in more than 25 states. There are also various events at local schools like Yale, with which we will be involved.

How big is this?
This is bigger than big! Students want to make a difference! We have chapters in colleges all over the country, at schools such as Harvard, Yale, Miami University, The George Washington University, Stamford, Texas A&M, Kent State University…and more. There are also international efforts under way in Sweden, Germany, and other nations.

What does this do for me?
It provides you with a wide group of contacts. There are ways to network all over the country. You get to meet students from other schools, host events on our campus, travel – it provides a wonderful reference on your resume, and possible college credit.

Who can join?
Everyone! Any major! Politics majors, economics majors, physical therapy majors, graphic design majors, art majors, music majors, theater majors, international studies majors . . . . Grad students, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors . . . . Everyone is welcome!
