It’s Snowing. How do I Know if Classes are Canceled?
Posted 11/19/2009
With winter just around the corner, now is a good time for a quick reminder on how to stay informed about changes to the University's schedule during severe winter weather.
During a winter storm or other emergency, there are several ways to find out if the University is open and if classes are delayed or canceled.
Web Alert
The simplest and quickest way is through the University's Web Alert system. Just go to www.hartford.edu or http://uhaweb.hartford.edu — if there is a weather advisory or emergency announcement, it will be displayed prominently at the top of the page.
Telephone
You can also check for weather-related closings and emergency announcements by phone. From off campus, call 860.768.4100. From campus residences and offices, dial “0.”
Text Message Notification Service
Emergency closing alerts will be sent via text message to those cell phone numbers registered with UHTXT, the University’s text message notification system. To sign up, go to www.hartford.edu/alert, and use your University of Hartford e-mail username and password to register.
Radio and Television
Please do not rely solely on what you hear on radio or see on TV. Limitations with both mean that you are not getting the complete detailed advisory that is available via the University’s website (www.hartford.edu) or main phone number (860.768.4100).
For the complete guide to emergency closing information, please visit www.hartford.edu/newsevents/emergency.asp.
