Bilal Sekou Interviewed on WFSB

Bilal Sekou, an associate professor of political science in Hillyer College, was interviewed for a story that aired on WFSB-TV (Channel 3) on Dec. 11. Sekou talked about U.S. Senator Chris Dodd's decision to stay in Washington, D.C., instead of attending a fundraiser in his honor in Connecticut. Vice President Joe Biden attended the event. Sekou said "short of the president, who is better to come in and stump for you? So the job can still get done at home, but he (Dodd) can still be there to fight the legislative fight, picking up the issue from where Sen. Kennedy left off." The University High School of Science and Engineering was mentioned in a Hartford Courant article about U.S News & World Report's list of America's best high schools. UHSSE was one of 16 Connecticut high schools, and four Hartford schools, to make the list. Read the story on courant.com.

Richard Freund, professor and director of the University's Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies, will be a guest on the "Face Connecticut" show on WTIC Radio (1080 AM) on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 6:05 a.m.  Freund will be discussing his award-winning book, Digging Through the Bible, his archaeological work, and its impact on our understanding of the history of early Christianity.

Women's Basketball Head Coach Jen Rizzotti was profiled in the Waterbury Republican American on Dec. 9. Rizzotti talked about her team's Dec. 10 game against UConn. "We want to face the best and see where we are and measure our flaws and use it as an opportunity to have a really good practice against the very, very best," said Rizzotti. Erica Beverly, a member of the women's basketball team, was profiled in the Greenwich Time on Dec. 9. Beverly said "I'm very happy that I picked the University of Hartford. It's given me great opportunities to play against great teams...So I'm very pleased with how I've progressed from my freshman year to my senior year." Keyokah Mars-Garrick and Nikkia Smith, members of the women's basketball team, were featured in The Day newspaper. The article focused on the friendship the students have developed. Smith said she "has felt comfortable at Hartford from the start" and "running with Mars-Garrick, as well as attending the second academic summer session at Hartford," helped her make the transition smoothly.
