Demetrios Giannaros, professor of economics in the Barney School of Business, wrote an article on the economic prospects for 2010 that appeared in the Hartford Business Journal's "Metro Hartford Trends Report," which came out on Dec. 31. In his article, titled "2010: A Year of Recovery," Giannaros wrote "we expect that in 2010, Connecticut's economy will be in the process of recovery – an economic recovery that may not be long-lasting unless we develop long-term economic strategies that move our state to the forefront of economic growth and high-value jobs."
Giannaros was also featured in a story that aired on NBC Connecticut on Dec. 31. Giannaros spoke to reporter Monica Buchanan about what to expect regarding jobs and the economy in 2010.
Michael Crosbie, chair of the Department of Architecture in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, was interviewed for a story on WTIC Radio (1080 AM) about the opening of the tallest building in the world in Dubai. Crosbie's comments on the relative merits of having the world's tallest building were aired during several newscasts on Monday, Jan. 4.

Peter Scuderi, a student who is pursuing a double major in clarinet performance and music education in The Hartt School, was profiled in the Westfield Reminder on Dec. 16. Scuderi recently won the Grand Prize in the van Rooy Competition for Musical Excellence. Scuderi said of the competition: "For the first round [of the three-round] competition, I was not nervous because I didn't expect to advance. [It wasn't until later], I was really intimidated." Curt Blood, an adjunct faculty member in The Hartt School, was also quoted. Read the story on thereminder.com.
