An opinion column by President Walter Harrison appears in today’s Hartford Courant (Friday, Feb. 5). In his column, President Harrison calls for the establishment of a Connecticut sports authority, which would “bring sports, civic and business interests together in a cooperative way to coordinate efforts to promote events and to attract more games and more revenue to our state.”

Harrison noted that, during the first week in March, the University of Hartford will host the America East men's and women's basketball championships, and the XL Center in downtown Hartford will host the Big East women's basketball championships. And in August, the XL Center and the University of Hartford will team up to host the national VISA Championships in gymnastics. “With some coordination, and not very much money, we can build on these events to make Connecticut a major contender on America's sports map and, perhaps, on the world’s.”
