Women’s Basketball Hosting Benefit 5K Race
Posted 10/27/2005
The University of Hartford women’s basketball team is sponsoring a five-kilometer Hawk Race/Walk to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
The event, which is open to the university community and the general public, will take place on Sunday, Oct. 30. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. in front of the Sports Center, and the 5K race/walk will start at 11 a.m.
The cost is $10 for the general public, and $5 for University of Hartford students and employees. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund.
After the race, refreshments will be available and participants will have a chance to mingle with the players and coaches.
The race was the idea of Courtney Gomez, a sophomore member of the women’s basketball team. Gomez said that the team would like to make the Hawk Race/Walk an annual event that benefits a different charity each year.
