Harrison Lauded on WTIC-AM; Goldstein in The Huffington Post; Hawkapella in Hartford Courant; and More
On April 27, the NCAA announced its new president -- Mark Emmert, current president of the University of Washington and a former provost at the University of Connecticut. University of Hartford President Walter Harrison had been considered a strong candidate for the position, a fact that was noted in much of the media coverage of Emmert's announcement. WTIC-AM sports reporter Scott Gray noted in his Wednesday morning "Comment from the Sports World" that Harrison would have made a great NCAA president, but that the University and the Hartford community should breathe a sigh of relief that he will be staying here because of all that he has done during his 12 years as University president. Listen to Gray's commentary. You can also read a transcript of Gray's commentary (scroll down to "Wednesday, April 28 Sports Commentary").
Warren Goldstein, chair of the history department in the College of Arts and Sciences, wrote an opinion piece for The Huffington Post about how ashamed he is of his namesake, South African Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein, and the rabbi's treatment of Richard Goldstone, who wrote a report critical of some of Israel's actions during the Gaza war. Read the commentary by the Warren Goldstein who teaches at the University of Hartford.
Hawkapella, a student a cappella group at the University of Hartford, was among the vocal groups highlighted in a feature story in the Sunday Hartford Courant Arts Section on April 25. Griffin Coombs, a member of Hawkapella, told the Courant, "College a cappella is all about how entertaining you can be to an audience. It's not so much about the music alone."
