A piece by Warren Goldstein, chair of the history department in the College of Arts and Sciences, appeared in the Huffington Post on May 31. In “What Will Israel Not Do?” Goldstein wrote “What were they thinking about? Let's get this straight. Israel is enforcing a blockade against Gaza that is in blatant defiance of international law….I do not want my tax dollars -- any of them -- supporting the military of a government that continues illegal settlements, continues the illegal blockade, and then blames the people being displaced and blockaded for not wanting peace.” Read more on huffingtonpost.com.
Neftali Torres ’10 was featured in the Hartford Courant on May 30. Torres, who received the John Lee Medal at Commencement, was among the local graduates profiled in the article “Breaking The Cycle: College Graduates Who Beat The Odds.” Torres was raised by a single mother after his father died when he was two years old. Torres says his mother "made sure I got my work done, made sure I wasn't hanging around with the wrong people, as much as I didn't like that. She put a lot of effort into pushing me to do things.
