University Mentioned on CTMirror.org, Gaspar on ESPN Radio, Kidney Walk on NBC Connecticut
The University's efforts to help students afford tuition were included in a story on the “CT Mirror” website on June 18. David Isgur, the University spokesman said, “’we’ve consistently added significant money to the financial aid budget,’ including about $2.8 million this year and another $4 million next year.” Isgur also talked about the Student Success Center. Dan Gaspar, head coach of the men’s soccer team, was interviewed on ESPN radio on June 15. Gaspar is the goalkeeper coach for the Portuguese National Team that is playing in the World Cup. Gaspar spoke about the Portuguese players, the mistake by the English goalie in a match against the United States, and the controversial vuvuzela horns. To listen to the interview, click here.
Gaspar was also quoted in the Irish Independent on June 15. Gaspar talked about Christiana Ronaldo, one of the best soccer players in the world. "To me, he's the ultimate competitor -- the total package,” Gaspar said. “He could have played any sport. He's competitive at everything, not only the best soccer player" Read more on independent.ie.
The National Kidney Foundation’s Annual Kidney Walk, which was held at the University on June 13, was the subject of a slideshow on NBC Connecticut’s website. The walk brought more than 600 participants to campus and raised nearly $120,000. View the slideshow on nbcconnecticut.com.
An article by Jan Brassem, an adjunct faculty member in the Barney School of Business, appeared in the June 2 edition of National Jeweler. Brassem wrote about an independent jeweler who has succeeded despite deciding not to enact changes recommended by many experts. Brassem says, “It would be easy to say that, generally, any jeweler who takes a conservative and practical management style in managing his store will come out ahead.
