Roger Desmond, a professor in the School of Communication, wrote an op-ed that appeared in the Journal Inquirer on May 26. Desmond urged people to "invite a child to read this summer. Buy her a book. Take her to a bookstore, or if that’s too much effort, download one to her computer, I-Pad or Kindle. Recent research on the benefits of reading for pleasure suggests that children and adolescents aren’t doing much of it, but if they do, the advantages of non-assigned reading will last a lifetime."

Steve Metcalf, director of Instrumental Studies for The Hartt School, was recently a featured guest on The Colin McEnroe Shoe on Connecticut Public Radio.  The topic of the show was "What Makes a Great Lyric." Click here to listen to the show.

Dan Gaspar, head coach of the men's soccer team, was featured in the Hartford Courant on June 25. Gaspar spoke about his experience helping to coach Portugal in the World Cup. "This doesn't make me a better coach than anyone else; it just makes me unique," Gaspar said. "The thing I'm excited about is going back to the University of Hartford and sharing this experience. … I'm a better coach and a better person for this experience."
