Susan Coleman, professor of finance in the Barney School of Business, was quoted in various media outlets in Connecticut on Friday, Sept. 10, about the prospects for job growth in the state in the months ahead in conjunction with a Connecticut Business and Industry Association survey of business owners on their feelings about the economy. “Although Connecticut companies are slowly beginning to add jobs, job growth will continue to be restrained in the face of looming uncertainties at both the state and national levels,” said Coleman in news stories posted by the Connecticut Mirror, Norwich Bulletin, and The Day newspaper.

Coleman was also quoted in the Connecticut Post on Saturday, Sept. 11, about where the candidates for the U.S. Senate from Connecticut stand on the debate over whether the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans should be extended or be allowed to expire. “A lot of the households with incomes of excess of $200,000 are small business owners — those people that create new firms, new innovations in terms of product, services and technology. They also create the bulk of net new jobs,” she said, arguing in favor of extending the tax cuts. To read the full story, click here.

The Associated Press story that quoted John Kniering, director of career services in the Office of Student Affairs, about how more freshman are visiting their college’s or university’s career services office to get a head-start on finding success in their job market was picked up by WWLP-TV Channel 22 News in Springfield, Mass. on Wednesday, Sept. 15. The University of Hartford has seen a 37 percent increase in freshman career counseling appointments since 2006, Kniering said. To see the video of the WWLP story, click here.
