Bilal Sekou, associate professor of political science in Hillyer College, was a guest on Fox CT’s “The Real Story” news show on Sunday, Oct. 3, discussing the questions he would like to see asked in the Oct. 4 debate between Linda McMahon and Richard Blumenthal, the candidates vying for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Chris Dodd. Sekou said he hoped the candidates would talk about their ideas for revitalizing urban areas in Connecticut and the rise in poverty nationwide. The University of Hartford was included in an Oct. 4 story in the Hartford Business Journal about the performance of the endowment funds of the state’s colleges and universities. In the article, titled “College Endowments Recovering, Slowly,” it was noted that “Like UConn, the University of Hartford counts on endowment income for a small portion of its operating budget — less than 2 percent — so its losses haven’t had a major impact on the university.” To read the full article, click here.

University students Emily White, a junior from Texas, and Megan Waggoner, a junior from Vermont, were photographed by the Hartford Courant as they helped set up a tent for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraising event held on campus on Friday, Oct. 1 through Saturday, Oct. 2. The photo appeared on page B3 of the “CT Now” section of the Oct. 2 issue of the Hartford Courant.
