Caitlin Francis, a senior majoring in communications at the University, wrote an opinion piece for the Oct. 27 issue of the Hartford Courant that urged younger voters to go to the polls on this Election Day and make their voices heard by casting their votes. “Candidates who are elected this year will decide on many critical issues and that is a compelling reason to vote. If young people feel they have the power to effect change, than they should use their power to elect government officials and not leave it up to older generations,” said Francis, who is also an intern in the Courant’s editorial department. University President Walter Harrison was quoted in a number of media outlets following the NCAA’s release of a study that showed improvement in the graduation rates of student-athletes at the nation’s colleges and universities. “In many ways, our work has just begun," said Harrison, who heads the NCAA’s Committee on Academic Performance, in an Oct. 27 USA Today article. “As the culture of academic reform grows stronger each year, we will see more and more improvement.” To read the full article, click here.
