Appiagyei Garners First America East Weekly Honor
Priscilla Appiagyei, a sophomore on the University of Hartford track and field squad, captured the indoor season’s first America East Female Performer of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office.
In a dual meet against America East conference-foe University of Vermont, Appiagyei scored a top finish in the 300-meter dash and went on to help the 4x400-meter relay team to a first finish on Saturday in the Hawks’ opening meet of the 2010-11 indoor season.
The South Windsor, Conn. native covered the 300-meter distance in 42.56, bettering her own school record time of 43.19 set last season. In addition, Appiagyei ran a leg of the 4x400-meter relay that outran the host Catamounts by more than three seconds with its time of 4:12.16.
Last season, Appiagyei earned points for the Hawks at the America East outdoor championship when she turned in a fourth place finish in the 400-meter run with a school record time of 56.40. In addition, as a rookie, she landed a spot on the podium and earned All-New England honors with a third place finish in the 400 at the New England Championship.
The Hartford track and field team returns to action on Saturday, December 11, when it travels to Cambridge, Mass. for the Harvard Open. Events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
