Black Maria Film & Video Festival Returns Feb. 19 and 20
The 32nd Annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival returns to the University on Tuesday, Feb. 19, and Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium.
General admission is $6, all students FREE with ID.
The Hartford Art School Media Arts Department and Arts and Science’s Cinema Department have been co-hosting the festival for over 20 years.
Since 1981, the annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival, which takes its name from that of the world’s first motion picture studio built by Thomas Edison in 1893, has been an international juried competition and award tour. The festival has been fulfilling its mission to advocate, exhibit and reward cutting-edge works from independent film and video makers. The festival is known for its national public exhibition program, which features a variety of bold contemporary works drawn from the annual collection of 50 or more award-winning films and videos. John Columbus, (HAS class of 1969) is the co-founder and director of the festival.
Featured this year are works by Ken Kobland, Kate Marks, Josh Gibson, Scott Stark, Alberto Cabrera Bernal, Hope Tucker and Greg Biermann, among others.
Each evening’s program will be unique, selected specifically for the University community engaged in independent media production and curriculum. Running time is approximately 90 minutes each evening.
