Funding Opportunities
The primary funding search engine used at the University of Hartford is SPIN (Sponsored Program Information Network). This online search engine lists both public and private funding opportunities. IPSR offers training twice a year on how to use SPIN, including setting up an account so that you can receive email notifications when a funding opportunity in your area of interest becomes available.
If you are interested in learning more about SPIN, please contact IPSR.
Another great source for public funding is grants.gov. You can search grants.gov using key words, or by using the CFDA numbers. The Catalog For Domestic Assistance (CFDA) is like the Dewey Decimal System for all federal grant opportunities. All federal grants will fall under one of its numeric catalog numbers. We recommend printing the CFDA Subject Index and highlight the key subject areas you are interested in. Then use the corresponding numbers to do your searches on grants.gov. We have discovered this is a more efficient means of searching than using key words.
You can also use a star ( * ) as the truncation symbol to broaden your search -- this is extremely useful. For example, instead of searching 47.070 under a specific category, search 47*
