Charitable Gift Annuities
Gift Calculator
Our gift calculator allows you to try out the possibilities in privacy, or you may wish to be in contact with our Director of Planned Giving.
About Our Gift Calculator
A charitable gift annuity is a contractual agreement between the donor and the University of Hartford. In exchange for an irrevocable transfer of assets to the University of Hartford for its eventual use, you and/or someone else you name receive fixed payments for life, guaranteed with the assets of the University of Hartford.

Additionally, you receive a charitable income tax deduction in the year you make the gift. At the end of your lifetime(s), the remaining assets become available to the University of Hartford to be designated as you desire. (See named endowed funds.)

Gifts can be established with $10,000 or more using cash or marketable securities. To see how it might work for you, please try entering your proposed gift amount and your age(s) in the Gift Calculator.
  • The number and ages of the annuitants determine the rate of income and your income tax deduction.
  • Using appreciated securities allows you to unlock income from low-yielding assets while reducing, delaying, or altogether avoiding capital gains tax.
Deferred Charitable Gift Annuities
Deferred-payment gift annuities can help you supplement or extend your retirement assets while receiving a current charitable income tax deduction. A younger donor will receive a higher annuity rate if the date of first payment is deferred to a later date, typically during the retirement years. Deferred Gift Annuities can also be illustrated by the Gift Calculator.

You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions about charitable gift annuities or would like to discuss your interest in setting up a charitable gift annuity with the University of Hartford. Your inquiry will be treated confidentially.
